Edit Image Definition

Use this tool to upload a new image, or to edit information about an image that was uploaded previously.

Uploading an Image

Before you can upload an image, the image must be on your computer or on a file server that you are connected to.

Any image that you are planning to upload must:

  • Be no larger than 200 kilobytes.
  • Have a file name with no special characters, including punctuation, &, *, #, etc.
  • Be one of the following file types: JPG, GIF, PNG.

Give your image a title and description. The title may include spaces. Descriptions are typically sentences or phrases. Technically, the title may be up to 255 characters and the description may be up to 64,000 characters (about 10,000 words) but you will no doubt have much shorter titles and descriptions.

Use the Browse button to locate and select the image.

Click on the Update button. Your image will now be uploaded and available to be linked on a Web page.

Editing Image Information

For any images that are uploaded, you can make changes to the title and description and even upload a new version of the image.

Tip StarTIP: You may be editing information about images that other members of your library uploaded. Take care with making changes.

Another option is to replace the current image with a new one. Use the Replacement Image option for this.

Tip StarTIP: You may wish to replace an outdated image with a newer one. For example, you may have a web page with a photo of your library. If you replace the current photo with a newer one, the old image will be removed and the new image will display in its place.

Deleting Images

You may be able to delete an image. Deleting is not an option when the image is being used on any draft or published page on your intranet. You can see which page or pages reference the image by looking below the Update/Cancel/Delete buttons.

To enable deletion of a particular image, you will need to edit each page that references the image. Using the Pages tool, locate the page that references the image you want to delete. Click on the title of the page, then the Edit Page Content button. Either delete the reference to the image on the page, or deactivate the entire page.

Tip StarTIP: You may be deleting images that other members of your library uploaded. Take care with deletions.
